Eben Bayer

Eben Bayer is the cofounder and CEO of Ecovative Design, a bio-materials company located in Green Island, NY. Eben co-invented MycoBond, a patent pending technology that uses a growing organism to transform agricultural waste products into strong composite materials. These materials require 1/10 the energy to create in comparison to environmentally damaging synthetics, like foam, and can be home composted. Eben Bayer received a dual B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design and Innovation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Prior to founding Ecovative he worked at ARA designing humanitarian de-mining vehicles.

Gavin McIntyre

Gavin McIntyre received a dual B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design and Innovation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May of 2007. Before founding Ecovative, Gavin worked for the Department of Energy at Brookhaven National Laboratory. At Brookhaven, Gavin worked on a variety of projects, including the design and analysis of electrostatic devices for high-energy physics experiments, and structural and thermal diagnostics of equipment to ensure experiment quality and accuracy.

Edward Browka spent 4 years working at Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), in the medical device field where he developed a radical new insulin infusion product that was significantly more affordable and functional than the current state of the art product. At BD, Edward won the Wesley J. Howe award for Technological Innovation in 2003, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the technical field. More recently Edward has worked with with small stage companies setting up manufacturing systems in China. In June 2008 Edward graduated from Stanford's Design School.

Sam Harrington

Sam Harrington received a dual B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design and Innovation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During internships, Sam developed high performance circuit breakers at GE Consumer & Industrial, and an improved manufacturing system for cathodic corrosion protection systems at Matcor. He has also worked with the Citizens Environmental Coalition in Albany where he helped organize the health environment, healthy economy symposium. He is a two time winner of the Change the World Challenge, and a winner in the international Dyson Eye for Why Design Competition.

Bill Grayson

Bill Grayson recently graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a concentration in manufacturing technologies. While at R.P.I. he worked as a teaching assistant in the machine shop for three years and focused on CNC machining and automation. During his time at Sono-Tek he designed integral components for a cutting edge stent coating system, and tested atomization of various liquids for use in fuel cells and PV solar cells.

Justin Frisino

Justin Frisino received a B.S. from the University at Albany in 2007. During his time at the Harvard Forest, Justin studied the ecophysiological aspects of carbon exchange in different forest ecosystems. Justin helped to develop the methods and baseline data for carbon respiration through coarse and fine woody debris in New England forests. Most recently, Justin has been installing green building products in residential homes in upstate New York.

Allison Poetzsch

Allison Poetzsch is a recent Biology graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She focused her studies in cellular and molecular biology conducting research with Drs. Robert Palazzo and Donna Crone on the protein structure and development of the centrosome in humans and clams. She is currently managing the research and development laboratory at Ecovative.

Dan Flagg

Dan Flagg

Daniel graduated from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in January of 2008 with a B.S. in Biology. While at Plattsburgh, Daniel had the opportunity to spend a semester at the University of Hawaii-Manoa studying resource management and conservation and working in a soil research lab. Also as an undergraduate, Daniel interned at Ohio State University in the Plant Molecular Biology department. Upon graduation, Dan began working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals as a microbiology analyst. His work included environmental monitoring of production areas and performing bioburden and LAL testing along with identification of bacteria and fungi using biochemical reactions and DNA sequencing techniques.

Sue Van Hook

Sue Van Hook is a mycological consultant to Ecovative. She studied fungi in Northern California at Humboldt State University with Dr. David L. Largent, receiving her BA degrees in Botany and French and MA in Biology focusing on macrofungi. She worked in land conservation and stewardship for The Nature Conservancy and Maine Coast Heritage Trust prior to joining the faculty in 1992 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. She is interested in growing and using fungi for food, healing, ecological restoration, and "green" mycoproducts.

Christopher Scully

Christopher Scully

Christopher Scully graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2008. Immediately after graduation, Chris taught himself Electrical Engineering while working on a novel method of radio spectroscopy for the purpose of humanitarian de-mining.  Afterward he started a business that designs and sells kits for innovative electronic gadgets to the worldwide DIY community. Here at Ecovative, he currently creates material testing and automation systems.
