Business Development Intern

Ecovative Design is in search of a Business Development Intern who, through collaboration with our CEO and Program Leads, will research, analyze, and capitalize on market opportunities for our structural composites in the interiors and building materials categories. This role will be responsible for finding, qualifying, and activating and supporting partners that would benefit from implementing Ecovative’s material solutions.

Our Business Development position will involve communication with prospects and customers, as well as potentially exhibiting at business opportunity events. Our materials are constantly advancing, and our R&D team is developing new materials with unique characteristics. You will also be responsible with selling prospects on development projects which push the boundaries of what is possible to manufacture today. 

This internship involves:

Complete value chain assessments for: (1) target markets in which the company’s MycoFlex™ biopolymer platform can address a meaningful industrial need; and (2) new territories in which the company’s mature products (e.g., Mushroom® Protective Packaging) do not presently serve.

Identification of prospective commercial partners for the company’s mycelium material platforms based on value chain assessments. This will include completing initial “voice of customer” conversations, developing small business plans (executive summaries) and pitch deck for addressable markets.

Collaborate with Operations and Finance team members to complete economic models for both new and mature mycelium materials.

Our ideal candidate has these characteristics:

  • pursuit of a Masters of Business Administration or the completion of a Bachelors in Business, Entrepreneurship, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Economics.

  • EXPERIENCE WITH MARKET RESEARCH AND IDENTIFYING MARKET FIT AND VIABLE CUSTOMERS AND PARTNERSHIPS

  • CREATIVE, AND ABLE TO TRANSLATE PROSPECTS NEEDS AND WANTS INTO ECOVATIVE CONCEPTS USING CURRENT MANUFACTURING METHODS OR USING PROCESSES STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT

  • FUNDAMENTAL UNDERSTANDING OF STRUCTURAL MATERIALS

  • Experience with supply and value chain assessment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Drive.

  • Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

  • OUTGOING PERSONALITY WITH STRONG ABILITY TO ENGAGE IN MEANINGFUL ONE-ON-ONE AND GROUP DISCUSSIONS

  • SUPERIOR ORGANIZATION AND FOLLOW UP SKILLS

  • EXPERIENCE USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS A SALES TOOL

  • PASSION FOR SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY IS A MUST!

  • INDEPENDENTLY DRIVEN AND A TEAM PLAYER.
