Engineering Maintenance Technician

Ecovative Design is seeking to hire an Engineering Technician to support the Engineering team and production operation. The primary role of this position is facility maintenance including maintaining machines and tools, ordering consumables, creating and maintaining spare parts inventory, and troubleshooting automated systems during production to minimize production downtime. The Engineering Technician will provide feedback to the company about shop and maintenance needs and work with facility Engineers to implement larger scale equipment / process overhauls and/or upgrades.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

Associates degree, preferably in an engineering related field and two (2) year’s experience in an engineering technical support role. Extensive engineering technician experience will be considered in lieu of education. Must have basic computer skills and reliable transportation between multiple facilities. Must be able to work independently and as a team member, manage task lists and timelines effectively, troubleshoot and resolve simple issues, and effectively communicate shop needs. Must be a quick learner and must be flexible to changing needs.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:
Use of mig welding, tig welding, fabrication, PLC, VFD, and forklift. Ability to understand technical
drawings, read and understand P&ID and electrical schematics, maintenance and repair of electric
motors, maintenance of boilers, maintenance and repair of Gearboxes and power transmission
couplings. Comfortability interpreting information from computer drafting programs and work with
industrial electronics and controls. Familiarity with industrial safety practices and process / machine
guarding.

Production Operator

Join our Production team responsible for performing the day-to- day operations in Ecovative’s production facility. Production operators operate, set-up, clean and trouble shoot equipment, move materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site, provides verification and records information and ensures that all required procedures are followed. This role will work as a team member and teach others and learn from others on the various tasks of Ecovative’s production lines. The role will also perform inspections and tests of material at various stages on the process to ensure quality and prevent contamination. In addition, Production Operators maintain tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities. Successful applicants will have knowledge of safety rules and procedures and be able to quickly observe and adapts to Ecovative’s requirements, including wearing required personal safety equipment. As with all other positions at Ecovative, this role will assist with team building and process development and advise management of flow and planning opportunities.

If interested and qualified, there is an opportunity to work 50% time on the Production team and 50% as a Materials Testing Technician on our Core Research Team. The Materials Testing Technician will perform a variety of mechanical, biological, and quality testing procedures to evaluate materials for key metrics and ensure our materials meet customer expectations. The Technician will measure parts, make observations and operate an Instron machine system to test parts for various characteristics. This role will also explore new testing methods and procedures.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Experience in a quickly evolving and changing environment with an emphasis on quality controls, safety, and cleanliness; sense of urgency; willingness to change/adapt to new processes, procedures, or work requirements; ability to perform physical labor (packaging, lifting, etc.); awareness of product flow. HS Diploma. Excellent team player as well as independently motivated to take pride in the work that needs to be done and remain focused on the task at hand. Able to use pallet jack and ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

To be eligible for the 50% role of Materials Testing Technician, an applicant should be pursuing or have obtained a degree in mechanical engineering or material science and/or 3+ years’ experience with mechanical testing; excellent at organizing large amounts of data; Proficiency in computer operation and ability to learn new software programs; Diligent; Observant and analytical; superior attention to detail; Self-motivated and independent; Great time manager and multi-tasker; Confident communicator; Reliable; Flexible.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Experience in food service, kitchen, greenhouse, manufacturing environment, or production line; Associates degree in life sciences or other related field; mechanical aptitude; forklift driver certification; a background in biology / environmental / sustainability; strong in numbers and calculations; lean manufacturing experience. Database, reporting, and inventory tracking experience. Prior experience in clean room operations.

Business Developer / Market Researcher

Ecovative Design is in search of an experienced Business Developer who through collaboration with our CEO and Program Leads will research, analyze, and capitalize on market opportunities for our structural composites in the interiors and building materials categories. This role will be responsible for finding, qualifying, and activating and supporting partners that would benefit from implementing Ecovative’s material solutions.

Our Business Development position will involve travel to visit prospects and customers, as well as exhibiting at trade events or other viable business opportunity events. Our materials are constantly advancing, and our R&D team is developing new materials with unique characteristics. You will also be responsible with selling prospects on development projects which push the boundaries of what is possible to manufacture today.

Our ideal candidate has these characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a business development role; A minimum of five (5) years’ in lieu of education
  • Experience with market research and identifying market fit and viable customers and partnerships
  • Creative, and able to translate prospects needs and wants into Ecovative concepts using current manufacturing methods or using processes still under development
  • Fundamental understanding of structural materials
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • Outgoing personality with strong ability to engage in meaningful one-on-one and group discussions

Product Designer / Fabricator

Ecovative Design is seeking to hire a Product Designer / Fabricator to design and fabricate prototype products for potential customers and business partners using bulk panel materials.  This role requires fabrication of sample panels from experimental and production bulk bricks and maintenance of inventory to satisfy diverse external sample requests.  Successful candidates will be an in-house expert in techniques for use of this material across many industries.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Architecture, Sculpture, or related field.  Experience will be considered in lieu of education.  Must possess construction, woodworking, or fabrication experience and have passion for hands-on work, including the use of hand tools. Knowledge of general building methods and materials and/or furniture component manufacturing.  Candidate must demonstrate ability to adapt quickly and learn new job functions, be able to effectively prioritize and work on many projects at once, and have excellent organizational skills.  Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage input from a variety of stakeholders.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Experience working with CAD software (Solidworks, Rhino, Pro/E, or similar), CNC machining, CAM software, and/or structural building materials and/or furniture component manufacturing is a plus.  Additional experience including maintenance of functional wood or related shop, demonstrated collaboration, and knowledge of industry trends is preferred.

Administrative Specialist

Be our office wizard and create the first impression of Ecovative.  This position requires taking immense ownership and pride in maintaining an efficient office environment. Handle a myriad of tasks, from answering the phone and greeting guests to coordinating birthday celebrations, team building activities, and receiving mail and deliveries.  Support all areas of the organization including scheduling and set up of meetings for leadership, assistant business operations, organize office documents, prepare office space for events and visitors, and assist the events committee. This role will also take on some administrative support functions within the finance and human resource departments, including vendor relations.

Minimum Qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years in an administrative support role; organization extraordinaire; motivated; passionate; computer know-how; excellent communicator; able to react, adapt, and reorganize quickly.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous office experience; college education; communications or business related social media experience.

Molded Shapes Product Designer

Ecovative Design is looking to hire a Molded Shapes Product Designer to design and prototype molded shapes out of our compostable material and help bring prospective customers into production. This role is customer facing with emphasis on taking customer needs and designing a solution that works for them and our manufacturing system. Successful candidates will be detail oriented designers that can interact well with customers and our manufacturing team.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or Engineering or equivalent experience.  Must have experience with CAD and CAM software and CNC machining. An understanding of 3D geometry and material science along with a passion for hands on work with the machines that take your design and bring it to production. Time and project management skills will be needed to successfully manage several projects in different stages of the process.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Experience with packaging design and ISTA testing, experience with thermoforming plastics, and a knowledge of composites and biology.

Laboratory Technician / Quality Technician

Join our Research and Development team and be a part of discovering and advancing our newest material platform, MycoFlex. We are seeking a research technician with experience in the development and implementation of quality assurance metrics for the production of biological materials. The Quality Assurance Methodologist/Research Technician’s responsibilities include: hands-on execution of experiments; creation of market prototypes; assessment of biological, environmental, and production controls as they relate to product consistency and quality; providing feedback and observations to facilitate the scaling and continued development of our technology. We are looking for an adaptable team player that loves to solve problems and has a positive, can-do attitude.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field
• Experience in pharmaceutical, fungi, or relevant food industry (such as cheese making, dairy,
agricultural, brewing, or other food sensitive to bio-contaminants).
• Must have a minimum of three years as a Lab/Research Technician (up to one year of college or
intern research experience will be considered toward the minimum)
• Must have at least one year experience in a QA/QC role specifically transitioning R&D materials
through the production process.
• Ability to hand mix materials
• Ability to do labor-intensive work for 8 hours
• Ability to creatively problem solve and suggest process improvements
• Experience optimizing biotic and abiotic growth environments by directly monitoring, identifying and
communicating risks, and coordinating mitigation efforts
• Formal experience/training in development and implementation of quality processes
• Ability to apply statistical methods for analysis
• Ability to comprehend technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:
Knowledge of aseptic technique; knowledge of mycology and/or experience growing fungus; basic fabrication/carpentry skills; experience working in a laboratory; capability and desire to independently design experiments; positive attitude, high energy, natural problem solver. Prior experience in areas of quality assurance such as: DOE creating, establishing incoming material and in-process controls, assessing systems performance, evaluating final products, conducting measurement system analysis, metrology, and utilizing various testing methods and associated software.
