Accounting Supervisor

Ecovative is seeking a process oriented Accounting Supervisor to maintain efficient accounting systems and processes to ensure accuracy of the financial information and accountable monitoring of our financial position. This role will perform a variety of finance functions including, AP/AR, payroll, depreciation schedule, grant invoicing and monitoring, general ledger, account reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and purchasing oversight.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing general accounting duties, including those listed in the above position summary; must have a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role and two (2) years in an R&D manufacturing environment; must be process oriented and seeking greater workflow and systems efficiencies; experience with recent Quickbooks releases; familiar with GAAP principles; knowledge of capitalization and depreciation expertise; highly organized and precise with ability to collaborate well with team members throughout the organization.

Preferred Qualifications: experience with patents as an asset, including depreciation; LEAN practices; budgeting experience; indirect rate proposal experience.

Business Developer / Market Researcher

Ecovative Design is in search of an experienced Business Developer who through collaboration with our CEO and Program Leads will research, analyze, and capitalize on market opportunities for our structural composites in the interiors and building materials categories. This role will be responsible for finding, qualifying, and activating and supporting partners that would benefit from implementing Ecovative’s material solutions.

Our Business Development position will involve travel to visit prospects and customers, as well as exhibiting at trade events or other viable business opportunity events. Our materials are constantly advancing, and our R&D team is developing new materials with unique characteristics. You will also be responsible with selling prospects on development projects which push the boundaries of what is possible to manufacture today.

Our ideal candidate has these characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a business development role; A minimum of five (5) years’ in lieu of education
  • Experience with market research and identifying market fit and viable customers and partnerships
  • Creative, and able to translate prospects needs and wants into Ecovative concepts using current manufacturing methods or using processes still under development
  • Fundamental understanding of structural materials
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • Outgoing personality with strong ability to engage in meaningful one-on-one and group discussions
  • Superior organization and follow up skills
  • Experience using social media as a sales tool

Research and Development Operator

Join our Core Research team and be a part of the design, build, and testing of ground breaking processes for bio-fabricated materials. We are seeking a Research and Development Operator to help the team run experimental equipment and early stage processes in collaboration with Production. This role will produce experimental material for testing and evaluation by Ecovative researchers. This role will collect data, present data, and help to optimize the production process under development.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies: We do not require an advanced degree to fill this role, however we are seeking an applicant with some training or education in science or technology field. Must possess strong math skills; proven data collection and documentation skills; MS excel, specifically in graphing and presented data; operation of experimental and early stage production equipment; knowledge of aseptic technique; intrinsically motivated and able to work independently; exceptional organization skills; strong attention to detail; ability to hand mix materials; ability to do labor intensive work on specified shifts; team player; ability to quickly and honestly address equipment process deficiencies and communicate effectively; comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Demonstrated experience leading small groups. Can-do attitude. Attention to safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies: Bachelors degree in a science or technology related field; lean concepts experience; manufacturing experience specifically in production or research and development; fork lift certification.

Genetics Laboratory Technician - Cultivation

Join our Genetics Research and Development team and be a part of the leading edge of microbial characterization and strain optimization research at Ecovative. Grant-related projects and development of novel microbial systems are pursued through the analysis of biological communities, modification of microbial strains, and optimization of cultivation conditions and processes. The Genetics Laboratory Technician – Cultivation works in a supportive role with the Genetics Team with responsibilities including daily execution and maintenance of experimentation related to the optimization and characterization of fungal cultivation paradigms, microbial community analysis, and various other duties. This role will use aseptic techniques, prepare substrates, perform physical mixing, identify contamination, use industrial and lab equipment, perform observations with data collection and note taking, perform literature research, and assist with daily lab space organization and cleaning.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or other related field; exceptional organization skills; conscientious in the work place; attention to detail; strong observational skills; ability to hand mix materials; independently driven; team player. This role requires repetitive use of hands and arms on a routine basis.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Knowledge of aseptic technique; willingness and interest in learning from observation; interest and knowledge of mycology and/or experience growing fungus; experience executing molecular biology work (PCR, bacterial/fungal transformation, DNA sequence analysis, HPLC); experience working in a production or kitchen environment. Research and Development Director

Ecovative is seeking a strategic, collaborative, process oriented Research and Development Director to work with the CEO to formulate and communicate a research strategy for the organization which is responsive to business needs as well as strongly aligned with the unique strengths the organization, with global trends, and with the mission, vision, and values of Ecovative.  The Director will periodically evaluate and update the strategy in collaboration with the executive team including identifying new opportunities and balance the risks against existing work.  This role will drive unification of an intellectual framework for mycelium technology against which all new hypothesis can be tested and onto which proven new discoveries can be appended. 

 

From a process perspective, the Director will oversee and enforce use of systems for data management, research quality, reporting, SOPs, and peer review, as well as ensure systems produce knowledge that is accessible, aligned with existing literature, and easily transferable.  The role will also guide the generation of new and valuable IP aligned with and in support of established strategy. 

 

From a people perspective,   the Research and Development Director will manage the operation of research scientists, biologists, chemists, material scientists, and engineers to advance the research strategy. Provide high level clarity on priority, project scopes, goals, and available resources and delegate project ownership, location ownership, and responsibility among the R&D group.  This role is key in developing strategies to attract top talent and support the continuous training and skills acquisition for the existing team.

 

Minimum qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in science or engineering related fields with a minimum of at least 5 years or more relevant experience in research and development oversight and a minimum of two years in a management capacity.  Must possess broad technology product management and ideally mycelium related industry experience; well- developed management skills; strong familiarity with safety, sanitation, and quality aspects; familiarity with development techniques such as Lean and Agile; strong analytical and reasoning abilities; ability to interact at all levels of an organization, including clients and partners; ability to represent and defend analysis in internal and client interactions; excellent writing and presentation skills; written work must be concise and persuasive; strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience overseeing multiple research projects.

Preferred qualifications:  A combination of experience in both academia and private industry project management.  Experience developing business strategies related to the application of mycelium-based technology.

Genetics Research Scientist – Strain Engineering

The Genetics Research Scientist – Strain Engineering works in a supportive role with the Genetics Team with responsibilities including daily execution and maintenance of experimentation related to genetic engineering of fungal and bacterial strains, physical and chemical characterization of strains, maintenance of strain libraries.  Specific responsibilities will include aseptic techniques, wild-type isolation, short and long-term strain preservation, PCR, bacterial and fungal transformation, plasmid design, Gibson assembly, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and use of HPLC.  Additional duties will include material / reagent preparation for experimentation, use of industrial and laboratory equipment, observation / data collection with associated documentation, literature research, and cleaning lab spaces.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

Masters degree in Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or other related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience OR Doctorate degree in Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or other related field; experience in sub-cloning and strain engineering; expertise in cutting edge scientific techniques e.g., CRISPR, Next-Gen sequencing, RNA-Seq; exceptional organization skills; conscientious in the work place; attention to detail; strong observational skills; ability to hand mix materials; independently driven; team player. This role requires repetitive use of hands and arms on a routine basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

 

Knowledge of aseptic technique; willingness and interest in learning from observation; interest and knowledge of mycology and/or experience growing fungus; experience executing fungal molecular biology work (transformation, RT-PCR, protein isolation and analysis, DNA sequence analysis). Lab Technician, MycoFlex

Join our Research and Development team and be a part of discovering and advancing our newest material platform, MycoFlex. The Laboratory Technician responsibilities include hands-on execution of experiments at lab and pilot scale, assisting team with execution of documentation providing feedback and observations to facilitate scaling of our technology. We are looking for a team player with a can-do attitude and an ability to solve problems.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

 

Bachelor’s degree in mycology or related field with a concentration in mycology.  Must have experience with cultivation of fungal aerial hyphae at lab and pilot scale experience working with various types and scales of incubation environments, exceptionally fast learner able to do rapid design, fabrication and analysis of production scale growth environments; knowledge of aseptic technique; intrinsically motivated; exceptional organization skills; attention to detail; strong observational skills; ability to hand mix materials; ability to do labor intensive work for 8 hours, independently driven; team player; ability to creatively problem solve, ability to be honest and direct; ability to deal with open ended tasks; comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

 

Background in fermentation, experience working in a production or kitchen environment, knowledge of mycology, applied microbiology and/or experience growing fungus; basic fabrication/carpentry skills; Positive attitude, natural problem solver.
